Facebook Reels: post types, limits, discovery and how to post
Since mid-2025 every video on Facebook is a Reel, whatever its length or shape. That makes Facebook the most flexible platform in the roster — and the most underrated one for operators, because the audience is huge and the competition for short-form attention is thinner than on TikTok.

Platform facts checked against Meta's own announcements and help pages, August 2026.
Facebook is where a lot of short-form operators find their oldest, most patient audience: people who still open the app daily and still share things to friends and groups. It's also the platform with the broadest set of post types in VidVertex's roster.
Post types
| Type | On Facebook | Through VidVertex |
|---|---|---|
| Reel (video) | Every video is a Reel now; any length, any orientation | Yes — rendered per brand |
| Text post | Plain text, optionally with images | Yes — text stack, up to 10 images |
| Carousel | Multi-image post | Yes — image carousel |
| Story | 24-hour image or video | Yes — one image or video, no caption |
| Live | Streaming | No |
Formats, lengths, limits
- Reels: in June 2025 Meta announced that all Facebook videos are shared as Reels with no length or format limit — a 20-second vertical clip and a 20-minute horizontal episode are both "Reels". Short vertical is still what the Reels tab recommends. VidVertex posts video explicitly typed as a Reel (with the post title as the Reel title), which is what the Reels tab and ranking key on; on the scheduling route an explicit Reel takes 3–60 seconds, and pre-flight warns outside that window (pre-flight). The Zernio bulk CSV is the one route without a Facebook content type — its rows post as feed videos.
- Format: 9:16, 1080 × 1920 for the Reels tab; other shapes are accepted and shown where they fit.
- Text posts: long; images attached up to the platform's limit (VidVertex sends up to 10).
- Stories: 9:16, short segments, 24 hours.
- Safe zones: bottom text block and right rail on Reels — safe zones.
Founder Hours ·Facebook ReelsHow discovery works here
Reels are recommended in the Reels tab and in the feed by the usual test-and-expand loop (how it works). Pages and professional-mode profiles get reach to non-followers; personal profiles in private mode mostly don't.
Facebook's feed weighs shares and reactions from friends more than most platforms. A Reel that gets sent around in messages travels further than one that only gets watched.
The account-level side: Meta's professional dashboard shows account status, recommendation eligibility and any restrictions, and Meta's originality rule applies here as well as on Instagram — accounts that mostly repost other people's content lose recommendation (duplicate content, platform messages decoded).
Monetization, as of August 2026
- Facebook Content Monetization — Meta's unified creator program (in-stream ads, ads on Reels, performance bonuses) for eligible pages and professional-mode profiles in supported countries. Eligibility has follower and activity thresholds and a content-originality requirement; the current numbers are on Meta's help pages.
- Stars, subscriptions, branded content on top.
- Meta's originality policies apply to monetization too: unoriginal content is the stated reason pages get removed from it.
Typical mistakes
- Posting from a personal profile without professional mode. No insights, no monetization, limited reach beyond friends.
- Sending TikTok-watermarked files. Same originality signal as on Instagram.
- Forgetting the format is now "Reels" for everything. Horizontal episodes are fine; just don't expect the Reels tab to push them.
- Treating Facebook as the afterthought mirror. The audience is older and more share-driven; it deserves its own texts.
- Ignoring groups. Shares into groups are a large part of Facebook reach and entirely human-driven.
How to post it
A caption written for TikTok usually reads wrong here — the audience is older and more share-driven. Per-platform texts are the fix (post texts).
In the app: a page or professional-mode profile; Reel → upload, trim, caption, publish. Text posts and stories from the page's composer.
With VidVertex: enable the Facebook channel on the brand (brands & platforms), render — the Facebook variant gets the brand's caption style and assets — and schedule. The Zernio API posts Reels, text posts with images, carousels and stories directly; the Metricool modes hand the media over through your Google Drive — the API mode posts it, the CSV mode writes an import file (upload modes). Facebook is the platform that takes all four of VidVertex's post types, which makes it the natural home for a text-with-images post alongside the Reel (post types).
